Atlas Stone (or Atlas Shards) occur when harvesting metal from lodes. The Atlas Stone can not be gathered by the gauntlet tool, but you have to pick it up with "E". The Atlas Stone drops off if the node is destroyed by harvesting it and therefore can drop into the void.

Atlas Stones are needed for crafting Atlas Core, Atlas Core Upgrades, and Atlas Lifters. The Atlas Pulse uses one shard per activation.
